Institute of Public Health is the only Public Health Training Institute in Punjab. The department of Epidemiology is the major component of this teaching matrix to postgraduate as well as undergraduate teaching and training at IPH.

Postgraduate Teaching Activities

The department of Epidemiology is contributing in teachings of the basic as well as advance epidemiology to the medical and dental graduates for the degree of Master in Public Health (MPH), Master of Maternal and Child Health (MMCH), Master of Hospital Management (MHM), Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) in Community Medicine and Fellowship of Community Medicine. This teaching capacity building enables the students for handling research programs, disease prevention and control programs, epidemiological applications in health and disease along with teaching epidemiology. The resultant outcomes are the Public Health Managers and Public Health Teachers.

Undergraduate Teaching Activities

The department of Epidemiology is contributing in teaching of subject of Epidemiology to paramedics in the courses of B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology (B.Sc. MLT) B.Sc. Medical Lab Technology (F.Sc. MLT) Sanitary Inspector, Dietitians and Dental Hygienist.

Research Activities

Faculty supervises the research dissertations of the postgraduate students and reports of undergraduate students at the individual level research publications fall in credit of faculty members.
Faculty places the major role in outbreak investigations and epidemic controls in Punjab as well as generation of evidence base advice for disease control and its prevention.

Evaluation

University of Health Science (UHS, Punjab Medical Faculty (PMF) and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) are the examining bodies of the postgraduate and undergraduate programs. The faculty of the department is also engaged with examinations of respective examining bodies in different courses.

Lab Work

This lab has been working from prepetition. This lab is governed by Government of the Punjab. In this lab water testing is being done sample are coming from whole Punjab from private and Government Institutions,  The Water test is performed on the sample of drinking water and these sample are kept at 37ºC in incubated for 24 hours and them again for 24 hours at48ºC. We detect the microbiological tests. We only see the E-coli.
Results are being prepared within 3 days the result is ready and being posted to the respective places.
4th year Community Medicine students of different Medical Colleges including Government and private institution also visit this lab and paramedical students of sanitary inspector courses also visit. The material which is used for lab work is obtained from secretariat. These water samples are being tested throughout the year, No. of test are markedly increase during the spring and summer seasons and in case of epidemic of water born disease.
